A common mistake people make when they’re learning how to pronounce English words, is to always pronounce words as they are written. There are lots of languages where how a word is written is how you you say it. Not so with English.
About 80% of words in English can be pronounced more or less as they are written -though it feels like less! In this audio training you will learn how to pronounce English for a specific set of words that fall into the 20% of words that aren’t said how they look.
Specifically, I’m talking about how to pronounce English words that are spelt with the ‘o’ letter and where the ‘o’ says the short ‘u’ /ʌ/ sound.
Often the common mistake people make is to pronounce the ‘o’ as ‘o’ instead of noticing that native English speakers pronounce it as a short ‘u’ sound in particular words. HOW TO PRONOUNCE ENGLISH TIP:-
You might have only been in an English speaking environment for a short time and are just learning how to pronounce English word. You might have been in an English speaking setting for many years, and have decided to upgrade your English pronunciation to be clearer. Either way, you need to keep listening to how native English speakers pronounce certain words. Often, English learners just use how the word is written. Make it a habit every day to pick a time when someone is speaking to you, and LISTEN if they have pronounced a word differently to what you normally pronounce it.
Then practise it in sentences at home till you get the hang of it, so you can use the new pronunciation with others. Build up word by word and you’ll notice how much easier it is for people to understand you.
Don’t forget. Whether you have been speaking English for a long time or just a bit, keep listening and noticing if people around you are pronouncing certain words differently from you.
